    I am Canadian and have an email list with MailChimp. Since July 2014 it has been a legal requirement in Canada to have double opt-in. MailChimp knew about this because I went back and forth with them over how to proceed. At the time they recommended double opt-in as the gold standard. Hard to understand the about-face.

    Thank you so much for this, Kirsten. As you mentioned in the blog, I had no idea how significant this little matter can be. I found out today, as I binged on your podcast to catch up on episodes I have not yet listened to.

    I used the notes for the podcast to go into my MailChimp account and switch back to double opt-in, which worked beautifully. I mention this because of your comment that you were not sure what will happen after Oct. 31. Today is Nov. 5 and, following the link you provided in your show notes, I clicked twice and was informed double opt-in was restored. Many thanks!
